Lisa McDonald
Lisa McDonald, creator of the website "Field Guide to Australian Shepherd Color Genetics"
has owned and loved Aussies for many years.
When Lisa was 10 years old she saw a "zony", a cross between a zebra and a pony.
This sparked her lifelong interest in genetics. She was fascinated with the way the
traits of the two species blended, both conformationally and with color and pattern.
Lisa received her B.A. degree in biological sciences at Trinity University.
She followed that with a M.S. in zoology at Texas A&M University.
She served for several years as secretary of the national breed club for zebra and
zebra hybrids through the American Donkey and Mule Society, cataloging breeding and color
data in these hybrids. She has published articles in popular magazines, such as Western
Horseman.
Currently, Lisa works as an environmental chemist measuring levels of PCBs,
pesticides, and dioxins. She trains graduate students and visiting scholars in these
techniques. Her current research interest is in the inheritance of undershot and overshot
bites in the domestic silver fox Vulpes vulpes. She is a "visiting scientist" for
the teaching museum at Texas A&M.
