Micropapilla is a smaller-than-normal optic disc, the point where the optic nerve enters the back of the eye. Micropapilla does not cause any vision loss or pain, though some examiners will not give dogs that have it a passing report. There is no firm evidence of inheritance and it is rare in Australian Shepherds. Given all this, breeders should simply treat it as a fault and breed away from it just to err on the side of caution.
